I've been drawing floor plans most of my life
What started as a childhood obsession with drawing homes became something I never really stopped doing — looking at a space, spotting what isn't working, and figuring out a better way for it to function.
It started with a love for designing homes
I remember drawing floor plans for fun when I was around eight years old. I used to create 2D Barbie houses with pencil crayons and books, and I loved building houses out of Lego — always thinking about the rooms, the layout, and how everything would fit together.
A few years later, when my family moved to Alberta and my parents built our family home, I got to be part of the actual design process.
That was when a childhood hobby started to become something more. I loved thinking through how rooms connected, how a home would function, and how small decisions could completely change the way a family experienced a space.
I’ve always been a problem solver
Over the years, I found myself doing the same thing for friends and family — helping with renovations, touring show homes, looking at layouts, and pointing out what could work better. I’ve also had the opportunity to create custom home concepts for family and friends, several of which were ultimately built.
But the part I love most is figuring out how a home needs to work for the family living in it. Everyone lives differently, and I love understanding their routines, priorities, frustrations, and needs — then designing a layout around them.
I naturally look for the friction in a space: the awkward doorway, the room that doesn’t connect quite right, the wasted square footage, or the storage in the wrong place.
And then I start figuring out a better way to solve it.
